What it does
The files you already have
Word, Excel and PowerPoint files open and edit in place — including the older .doc, .xls and .ppt, and OpenDocument files.
Write together
Several people can edit the same file at the same time and see each other’s changes.
Shared as far as you choose
A document is a file: yours alone, your department’s, the people you name, or everybody’s.
Saved as you go
Changes are written back as you work, and a save is never left half-written — a dropped connection cannot spoil a good file.
Good to know
- From Files you start a document or a spreadsheet. A presentation you already have opens and edits the same way.
- Editing happens in the browser. There is no program to install and no separate licence to buy.
Questions
Do we still need Microsoft Office?
Not for writing and editing: documents, spreadsheets and presentations open and edit in the browser, and they save back in the format they came in.
Can we open old Office files?
Yes. The older .doc, .xls and .ppt formats edit in place, as well as the current ones and OpenDocument files.
